For the second consecutive year, Syracuse University has been awarded two national accolades at the 30th Annual Telly Awards. The spots were generated by Roger Springfield, the Department of Athletics' Director of Media Properties, Production & Licensing.
With more than 14,000 entries from all 50 states and around the world, Springfield’s work was recognized for outstanding media production. Both commercials, “Showtime” and “Workout,” earned a Bronze Award and were originated to build excitement for fans about the 2008-09 Syracuse men’s basketball and football seasons.
"We are honored and proud to receive these awards," said director of athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. "Our staff has put in an incredible amount of hard work to become cutting edge. Our creativity and vision enable us to produce these types of spots on a regular basis. The SU athletics department is the leader in multi-media in college athletics."
Founded in 1978, the Telly Awards are the premier award honoring the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.
This year's winners include companies, agencies and organizations of all sizes, from large multinational media companies to small ad agencies and local production houses. A sample of Telly Winners includes Discovery Communications, Fox Sports International, New York Jets, NFL Players, Nickelodeon, Time Warner Cable and WE TV.
Springfield has now won 17 Telly Awards in his career. He has directed more than 50 national television commercials for clients such as The BIG EAST Conference and the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. He has also manufactured documentaries for ESPN, Warner Brothers, Public Television, ISP Sports and numerous other major universities.
