BOSTON
-- The Orange cross country teams made history on Saturday winning the NCAA Northeast Regional championships. It is the first NCAA Northeast Regional title for the men or the women in school history. Junior Katie Hursey was the first runner to cross the finish line at the competition with a time of 21:57, becoming SU's first individual women's champion. She has clocked the team's best time in four of the past five races.

"It was the best day for Syracuse cross country, ever," said head coach Chris Fox.

Last year, the women placed second and the men finished fifth at the annual race.

The 10th-ranked Orange women's championship team was comprised of Hursey, senior Maegan Krifchin (22:48), junior Catherine Desarle (22:11), sophomore Natalie Busby (22:55), sophomore Lauren Penney (22:42), and freshman Kim Spano (23:02).

The No. 11 Orange men finished four points ahead of No. 9 Iona. Sophomore Pat Dupont finished fifth overall with the team's best time of 31:09, while senior Brad Miller (31:34), senior Jeff Scull (31:18), senior Dan Busby (32:11), sophomore Griff Graves (31:20), sophomore Tito Medrano (32:55), and sophomore Forrest Misenti (31:23).

"Team running was the key today," Fox said. "We had great group running."

The team will compete at NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Monday, November 23.
