The Syracuse field hockey team will learn its fate later today during the 2009 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Selection Announcement which is scheduled to air tonight, Tuesday, November 10, at 8 p.m. The show will be streamed online via NCAA.com with Microsoft Silverlight serving as the platform for the viewing show.

The fifth-ranked and top seeded Syracuse University lost to seventh-rank and two seed Connecticut, 2-1, today in the final of the BIG EAST Championship at Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. For the second consecutive year the top-seeded Syracuse University field hockey team advanced to the BIG EAST Championship final after defeating fourth-seeded and host Providence College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The Orange used two first-half goals and a strong defensive effort to earn the victory. SU improves to 17-2, while Providence ends its season with a 10-10 mark.

Third-year head coach Ange Bradley was voted the BIG EAST Conference Coach of the Year, the league announced at its annual field hockey awards banquet Friday night. The fifth-ranked Syracuse Orange field hockey team (16-2, 6-0) travels to Providence, R.I. for the BIG EAST Championship. Providence College will host the event with the semifinal taking place on Saturday, November 7, and the championship game on Sunday, November 8.

SU makes its 19th appearance at the BIG EAST Championship, carrying an 11-14 (.440) record including four crowns (1993, 1995, 2001, 2008). SU also has three second-place finishes; 1992, 1994 and 1999. Syracuse defeated Connecticut, 1-0, in last year’s tournament.
